Improv Basics based with an Acting emphasis
My acting training is always based on absolute authenticity, whether on stage or in front of the camera. The development of the individual personality is the key to expressive, personal acting.
Sanford Meisner was convinced that actors could be trained to really listen to each other, to open up and, based on this, to really live moments together on stage or in front of the camera instead of just pretending to do so. The technique enables actors to make contact with their partners spontaneously and intuitively, free from intellectual processes. The training trains listening skills and enables actors to experience an impulse-based relationship with their partners. All Training is based on Meisner Principle of "living truhtfully under imaginary circumstance".
The aim here is to find out what is actually perceived as funny, how humor works and how we can create it in the moment. With numerous games and formats, we exercise our comedy muscle, analyze famous sitcoms and use comedy techniques such as timing, resistance and contrast to improve our comedy game. The '8 Characters of Comedy' give us a deep understanding of the relationships, depth and madness that characters must have to take us into the world of the absurd.
Concentrating on your fellow actor and the effect of inner life as a means of expression for working in front of the camera. Reducing the craft to the essentials is one of the secrets of working in front of the camera. Concentration away from yourself is the creative source of acting for film & television.
The aim of improvisational theater is not to train professional actors who can bring a high degree of presence, role understanding and charisma to any stage at any time. Rather, improv is about unleashing the creativity of the individual through self-acceptance and the (self) permission to fail. The simple rule of “Say yes, and” expands inner boundaries and opens up new perspectives.
